DESCRIPTION
“Out of my Mind” is
a realistic fiction book about a girl named Melody who has a deformation where
she can barely control her body, cant talk and is permanently in a
wheelchair. In a “special needs” class,
she can’t communicate with any other student without pointing with her thumb to
a word on her board. Now that she is
getting a baby sister, getting put in a new class with some bullies, and going
out of her mind because she can’t talk, she must depend on her friends, family,
and her own intelligence to finally be able to speak.
The main characters
are: Melody Brooks (and her family), Mrs.
V (her mother’s friend), Rose Spencer (Melody’s friend), and the rest of
Melody’s friends.
The story takes place in many places, but the
main place is in Melody’s school, Spaulding Street Elementary, classroom H-5.
The time period is not given.
MY FAVORITE PART
My favorite part of
Out of My Mind was when Melody and her friends were in a contest of extremely
intelligent students to win a trip to Washington D.C.
WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT
You should read Out
Of My Mind if you like realistic fiction, humor and/or stories about hidden geniuses, because this
book has it all, and more!
